Résumé

The literature often offers a negative view of alcohol consumption, frequently regarding it as a public health problem, particularly in Africa and Burkina Faso. The social, economic and cultural dimensions of alcohol are often neglected, whether in scientific or popular literature. This study focuses on alcohol consumption in the context of the fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso. It was conducted using an essentially qualitative method, using semi-directive interviews with consumers in certain district of Ouagadougou, administrative authorities and brewery managers. The results show that, in a context of security crisis, alcohol consumption in Burkina Faso is no longer perceived as a societal problem, but rather as a patriotic act aimed at financing the war. Indeed, the survey reveals that the war is largely financed by the taxes imposed on each bottle of drink consumed, and citizens say they are proud to drink more to support the war effort.
