The objective of this chapter was to evaluate the impact of crop rotation on maize yields in Burkina Faso. To achieve this objective, a methodological approach built
around the impact evaluation matching approach was adopted. The main results show that crop rotation has a positive and significant effect on maize yield in
Burkina Faso. In fact, previous planting of oilseeds, legumes and maize/cotton lead to an increase in maize yields of 32%, 24% and 39% respectively. It should be
noted, however, that the study of crop rotation seems more relevant in the context of organic farming, which is not the case in Burkina Faso. In terms of the implica
tions of agricultural policies, it would be appropriate for the authorities in charge of agricultural policy management to improve corn yields to encourage and popular
ize the practice of crop rotation on a large scale.
