Resource security and sovereign control : repositioning national geological agencies as strategic enablers of African mining
- WACA : 1-1
Résumé
BUMIGEB, a strategic state-owned company, plays an essential role in the development of the mining sector as an NGS. Given the current context marked by a quest for sovereignty and endogenous development, it occupies a highly strategic position in the country's mining and energy sector. As pioneering structure in the mining sector, its work has confirmed the existence of significant mineral potential in the country, which has led to the development of the mining sector, with 13 industrial mines and around 30 quarries currently in production. Due to a lack of allocated resources, its activities were limited to mapping and the preliminary stages of mineral exploration, leaving advanced mineral research exclusively to international mining investors. The occurrences identified by BUMIGEB were then left to the private sector to pursue exploration and development.
