Résumé

This chapter discusses the recent events of rural insecurity that are challenging the existence of large-scale agricultural projects in the Sourou valley, a major site in the economic development strategies of Burkina Faso since the 1960s. This is a multilayered crisis that is analysed by focusing on land insecurity issues and the inefficiency of large-scale agricultural schemes. Other factors leading to the spread of rural insecurity in Sourou Valley are related to the limits of the Agropole economic model, which amplifies the process of land fragmentation and does not value the interdependence among productive specialisations to ensure peaceful coexistence among different groups.
